Laboratory for chemical contaminants and sustainable development performs targeted and screening analysis of chemical contaminants in accordance to the third party requirements, including the regulated (such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, organochlorine compounds, heavy elements) and unregulated emerging (e.g. perfluorinated compounds, pharmaceutically active subtances) pollutants in various types of samples (for instance, environmental matrices, biological, waste or construction materials, pharmaceuticals, food supplements, etc.) using the advanced analytical techniques like ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass detector (UHPLC-MS/MS), ultra high performance liquid chromatography with high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS), gas chromatography with mass spectrometry applying optionally SPME and head-space analysis, gas chromatography with micro electron capture detector (GC-μECD), atomic absorption spectrometry with graphite furnace (GFAAS). Based on the results of the micro-pollutant analysis, the Laboratory also performs identification of potential pollution sources, pollutant transfer from the environment to humans via food chain and unintentional exposure, and risk assessment, giving the opinion on the environmental quality; in the case of the specific product analysis, the results is used to assess the product quality in line with relevant domestic/international regulations or guidelines. The Laboratory offers consulting on micro-pollutant monitoring, validation of the analytical methods for the pollutants determination, risk assessment, waste valorization, conventional and alternative fuels and their application, cogeneration approcahes as a contribution to the sustainable development, as well as the expertise within areas of the oil and gas transport, processing and production of gas and oil products. Moreover, based on the previous experience in organizing numerous national and international events, the Laboratory continues with the knowledge transfer activities within the domains of chemical contaminants analysis and sustainable development in a form of workshops, training courses, conferences.
